Answer to last week's riddle: 17 minutes. Catherine and Dan cross the bridge (2 min. elapsed). Dan takes the poles back (3 min. elapsed). Adam and Barbara cross the bridge (13 minutes elapsed). Catherine takes the poles back across the bridge (15 minutes elapsed). Catherine and Dan cross again to meet Adam and Barbara (17 minutes elapsed).

Last week's riddle asked: "4 hikers (Adam, Barbara, Catherine, and Dan) need to cross a narrow bridge over a roaring river with the aid of two poles. Either 1 person (with both poles) or 2 people (with one pole each) can cross the bridge at a time. It takes Adam 10 minutes to cross the bridge, Barbara 5 minutes, Catherine 2 minutes, and Dan 1 minute. What is the minimum time it takes to get all four hikers to the other side of the bridge? (No pole-throwing, space ships, or other heroic assumptions allowed.)"

This week's riddle: Name two men (both quite famous) who were born on the same day and year an ocean apart. One was the father of something grand; the other made his mark with "original" scientific ideas.
