In my column last week, we asked, “How would you describe the pulp and paper industry?” We gave the choices, on a 1 to 5 scale, “Neanderthal like,” “Dull and boring,” “Nothing Special,” “A nice place to work,” “Vibrant,” and “Thrilling.” “Vibrant” had a mean of 2.5 with a standard deviation of 3.5, while “A nice place to work” had a mean of .5 with a standard deviation of .7.

We then asked, “Do you have an exciting story to relate about the pulp and paper industry?” The top response was, “Goes way back. We invented the Consolidated coater (frequently misnamed "Massey") in 1935. Life magazine came along in 1936 and we never looked back.”
