Being on time

In my column last week, we posed "When you think about meetings you attend, are all attendees present at the designated time..."

42.9% of respondents answered "Yes, most of the time," 42.9 chose "Yes, often," and 14.3% answered "Yes, rarely." No one chose "Yes, sometimes" or "No, never."

Next, we asked "Do you view punctuality as a quality attribute?"

100 percent answered "Yes."

Finally, we posed "If you have subordinates, how do you train them to be on time to meetings and calls?"

Responses:

Have a chat with them on the importance of meetings.

At meeting time of mandatory meetings, lock the door.

Lead by example and stress the importance of punctuality.

It's needed to speak to them at the moments they are late. If happening to often, give them a warning. (We have a warning system in our factory, 3 warnings and you're out.)

I model the behavior I expect and discuss major tardiness with offending parties.
