Dealing with rabid environmentalists

In my column last week, we asked, “Do you attempt to engage in dialog with rabid environmentalists?” 57.1 percent of our respondents said yes, while 42.9 percent answered no.

We then asked, “If you answered yes to the first question, care to tell us how you handle this situation?

> Having been in the power industry for over 40 years, when they complain about green house gases I tell them to go home and unplug everything, but start with the AC and heat.

> I confront them with facts about how much wood is standing, how the industry has minimized both air and water emissions, has reduced water consumption/ton by an order of magnitude over the past 50 years, has reduced the odor from kraft mills, and how paper products and paper based packaging made from renewable resources benefit society.

> I remind him/her to keep their cars parked, their homes' unheated/cooled, and open the breaker on their electrical panel coming from the utility. I close the argument by quoting from the old bumper sticker, "Save a tree, wipe your butt with cellophane."

You can take this week's quiz here.

Want to get a jump on the surveys? Follow me on twitter, where they are posted early. You can do this here. (note: all respondents are confidential; the software is programmed in such a way that neither we nor anyone else can determine who responded)
