Fire at Universal Forest Products facility

NEW WAVERLY, Texas (From the Huntsville Item) -- Quick work by firefighters saved the day for a Universal Forest Products facility this past week.

Firefighters were dispatched Wednesday to a fire at the Universal Forest Products plant in New Waverly. The fire started in a sawdust collection hopper and was threatening to spread when the first crews arrived. Firefighters set up a water supply from the plant's fire water pond and began attacking the blaze, while summoning additional crews from North Montgomery County and Huntsville.

New Waverly firefighters were able to contain the fire before it spread, and then they deployed off a Huntsville ladder truck to completely extinguish the blaze. There were no injuries and although the sawdust hopper suffered significant fire damage, there was no damage to the rest of the plant.
