Grupo Gondi to invest $300 million to build new mill in Mexico

MEXICO CITY (News release) -- Grupo Gondi has announced plans to build a state-of-the-art recycled lightweight containerboard paper mill in Mexico.

The new paper mill will have the capacity to produce over 350,000 metric tons per year of containerboard and will provide reliable, high-quality medium and linerboard for Gondi's converting operations and third parties.

"We are pleased to invest in this new manufacturing facility, which will help us enhance our service and position in the growing packaging market in Mexico. After completion, Grupo Gondi will produce over one million metric tons of paperboard per year," said Eduardo Posada, chief executive officer of Grupo Gondi.

"This new investment shows our continued commitment to better serve our customers through innovation and productivity," said Alejandro Gonzalez Cimadevilla, President of Grupo Gondi.

Grupo Gondi, 25 percent owned by WestRock, will invest approximately $300 million dollars in this project, which is estimated to be completed by the end of 2019.
