Klabin: Maintenance shutdowns at the Puma and Monte Alegre units in Brazil

BRAZIL -- Klabin says it will conduct maintenance shutdowns at its two units in Paraná, Brazil. Between March 19 and 31, the Puma Unit in Ortigueira will undergo its first maintenance shutdown. The Monte Alegre Unit will be shut down for maintenance between April 24 and May 3.

Around 150 companies will be contracted for the maintenance services, which include inspection of boilers, digesters, pipelines, power generation and distribution systems, and control of the entire production process, among other activities - all this to ensure the safety and reliability of plant operations.

The number of workers mobilized for the maintenance works requires logistics and infrastructure that include transportation, accommodation, meals and other items that drive and stimulate the local economy of Ortigueira and Telêmaco Borba.

Maintenance shutdown is an annual procedure required by law that involves halting production to carry out maintenance of equipment in order to ensure the safety of employees working at the Units and the operational continuity of the plants. At Klabin, the stages of maintenance shutdown are defined based on project management best practices, with the focus on safety, planning, integration and quality in the production processes at the manufacturing units.

Klabin is Brazil's largest paper producer and exporter and the leading manufacturer of paper and board for packaging, corrugated board packaging and industrial bags.
