Let's make this housekeeping year

In our quiz last week, we asked:

Question 1

What are your housekeeping goals for this year?

Answers were:

Keeping my office cleaner.

Clean up my office, focusing on putting my files in order and scanning the really important documents.

We started last year with 5S, now it is our major way in housekeeping. Also before that it was an pride and honour to work in a well organized and clean (and thus also safe!!!!) factory

I will regularly audit my areas of responsibility making an audit findings report. Each finding will be assigned to an 'inescapably accountable human' with a timeline for resolution. My goal will be *housekeeping audit findings reduced by 75% from Feb, 12 to Dec, 12 audit. *there will be no repeat audit findings after 4/12 audit

Question 2:

How will you measure them?

By having a clear work space on my desk before I leave...and organize the remaining paperwork in an orderly way to begin working on it again in the morning. If I can see 50% of my desk, this means I am meeting my goal.

I won't spend valuable time (hours) looking for a file that is either in a pile in my office, a box in the garage or one of the 5 filing cabinets in the basement, my office and the garage.

At least once a week 2 of our employees do an audit in a department where they don not work. The assign marks on a score card. At the end of the year there is a small bonus for all employees if the assignd numbers are better then "7" (on a scale from 1 to 10, being 10 the best achievable. (Yesterday I did a tour trough the factory for some customers, they where delighted about the well organized and clean factory!) If someone structurely denies to clean his workplace is this a reason to have a discussion about functioning. When the person then does not improve his workplace he will get an official (and written) warning. After three warnings it is a reason to be fired. (This has never happened :-))

Audit reports will be retained and updated with assignments, target completion dates, and finally with actual completion dates.
