Packaging Corporation of America to bring 100 jobs to Marshfield, Wisconsin

MARSHFIELD, Wisconsin (From news reports) -- Packaging Corporation of America will move its Colby, Wisconsin facility to Marshfield, bringing with it 80 jobs and creating 20 more once the facility is up and running.

The Marshfield City Council unanimously approved the proposal to bring the packaging facility to town after more than 50 years at the Colby location.

"Diversifying our manufacturing base is important," said Marshfield Mayor Chris Meyer "This is another feather in the hat for our manufacturing businesses in town."

PCA is set to acquire about 30 acres of property in the Yellowstone Industrial Park located East of Galvin Avenue and North of Yellowstone Drive in Marshfield, according to the development agreement. The company plans to purchase the lot for just under $300,000, which the city will return to them after the project is completed.

The project will cost the city of Marshfield approximately $3.1 million for infrastructure improvements and developer incentives. The entire cost will be covered by the future taxes paid by the facility. As stated in the development agreement, construction is expected to cost close to $1.7 million. The addition of railroad tracks to the site has an anticipated cost of $1.3 million.

MSA Professional Services will perform the engineering. The work on the railroad will start Monday and is expected to be finished by this time next year.

PCA would like to break ground on the facility itself as soon as September, with the hope of having the facility completed by early 2018.
