Last week in my column, we asked you, "Does your mill have any formal system of recording actions that must be taken with seasonal changes?"

50 percent responded "Yes," and 50 percent responded "No."

Comments:

> Amen!

> I have worked in 2 mills that did this well, maintenance brought out the list each fall and worked on it proactively.

> My 'formal' system was simply a list of the winterization work orders from the prior year. That list was updated each year to eliminate items that were no longer applicable and add new items that process changes during the year had added. The list was reviewed with area supervisors 90 days from first anticipated freezing conditions and with all supervisors in a foremen's meeting 30 days prior. Winterization prep was a 'must' in our mill.
