In my column last week, we asked, “Do you think home offices and on line shopping are imminent in significant numbers?” 87.5 percent of respondents answered "Yes, " while 12.5 percent answered "No."

We then asked for your comments with the question, "What can the pulp and paper industry do (new products, etc.) to fulfill the human need to be connected?":

> Develop cellulose based plastics and materials that are used in equipment and other aspects of these new environments.

> Get more dispersed. We need to be more local Smaller, dedicated plants that reduce time and distance to the minimum. Also close the loops like Pratt, only with more plants on a smaller scale. Light Green Machines for pulp. paper, packaging, printing, packaging,recovery,reuse,etc.

> Qualified "Yes". We are about 15% manufacturing jobs and 85% "service" jobs. Many "service" jobs can be done remotely, but not all. And many "service" jobs require contact with others. So, change will happen, but I'm not clear on how.
