Responses to last week's column

Last week we asked,

Have you ever had a "Rupert Murdoch Moment" as described in this [now last] week's Nip Impressions?

>I joined a relatively small mill after working at a very large mill. The mill made most of it's pulp, but was not fully integrated. I was looking at ways to increase output and lower costs - and it finally dawned on me that the mill's scale was too small to justify the capital for extra production we needed.

>I came to realize that IPST is no longer the research and graduate education center for the pulp, paper and allied industries after what Gerogia Tech has done to it - a true tragedy!!!

>Thinking that "the prices of the far east" would never become so low that it is possible to manufacture over there, send it to the western country's and still be cheaper.

We also asked:

Have you observed others having a "Rupert Murdoch Moment"?

>I observed people refusing to accept the decline in newspapers and other print media. Many of them are still in a state of denial.

>Refining could only be done the way we did in the past... because it was done that way always. Still I think there is a lot of room for progress in one of the least efficient parts of our process.

This week's quiz is here.
