In my column last week, we asked, "Suppliers only, please--which statement most nearly describes your view of machine downtime?"
85.7 percent responded, "We try to be very accommodating of machine downtime," 14.3 responded, "We don't have the resources to be very flexible concerning machine downtime," and no one responded, "We ignore machine downtime due to bad experiences."
We then asked, "Suppliers only, please--Why do you not offer several levels of service during downtime?"
14.3 percent responded, "We do offer various levels of service for downtime conditions," 57.1 percent responded, "We have had a bad experience--we tend to give away services when we offer a range of levels and pricing," and 28.6 percent said, "We have never been asked to offer various levels of service."
