Two men arrested in diaper bank theft in Wisconsin

FOX CROSSING, Wisconsin (From the Appleton Post Crescent) -- Two men have been arrested in connection with the theft of 100,000 diapers from the Fox Cities Diaper Bank, authorities said Monday.

They were arrested on Friday and are being held at Winnebago County Jail, said Jason Weber, community liaison officer for the Fox Crossing Police Department.

More details about the arrests will be released by police at a news conference Tuesday morning. Representatives from United Way Fox Cities, which operates the diaper bank, and Valley Packaging will also be on hand to answer questions.

The theft occurred between Jan. 3 and Feb. 13 at a warehouse on Valley Road in Fox Crossing. Police said 1,777 cases of diapers, valued at $45,000, were stolen. After news of the theft broke, Amazon donated 100,000 diapers and 200,000 wipes. Kimberly-Clark Corp. also pledged 100,000 diapers to the diaper bank, which are expected to arrive this week.

The diaper bank provides diapers to 875 babies from low-income families every month. The program supplied 300,000 diapers to babies in the Fox Cities in 2016.

In addition to donations from corporations, civic groups, churches and individuals, the diaper bank gets major assistance from Dollars for Diapers, a fundraiser launched by The Post-Crescent and supported heavily by Kimberly-Clark Corp.
