Worker killed in accident at Domtar's Kamloops, B.C. pulp mill

KAMLOOPS, B.C. (From news reports) -- WorkSafeBC is investigating a heavy-equipment accident on Thursday at Domtar's Kamloops pulp mill that left one employee dead and another in hospital.

According to a statement issued by Domtar on Friday morning, the incident took place at about 3 p.m. on Thursday.

"Two employees were injured in an incident with heavy equipment at the plant," the statement read.

"The mill emergency response team responded to the incident and external emergency services were called to the scene."

One worker died and the other "has been treated and is under observation," according to the statement.

Domtar said in the statement it is offering counselling to employees and cooperating fully with WorkSafeBC's investigation into the incident.

WorkSafeBC confirmed it is investigating the incident.
