KAMLOOPS, B.C. (From news reports) -- Fire crews spent several hours overnight Feb. 18 keeping an eye on a portion of the Domtar mill where a small fire broke out just before midnight. KFR crews assisted emergency crews from Domtar in dealing with the issue.
The fire started inside the mill on the east side of the steam plant. The fire had gotten into a wall near an old air intake that hasn't been used for about 15 years.
The blaze was put out fairly quickly, but crews had to spend over three hours digging out sawdust that had collected around the intake over time. They needed to ensure no hot spots had developed.
It doesn't appear the mill had to shut down much during the time crews were there.
