Domtar Named a Top-50 U.S. Green Company

From Domtar

At Domtar, sustainability means taking a longer-term view of creating and preserving value for our shareholders, customers, employees and communities. That's why we're pleased to announce that a major news magazine recognized us as a top-50 U.S. green company in its year-end sustainability rankings of the largest publicly traded companies in the United States.

At No. 42 on the Newsweek Green Ranking 2017 U.S. 500 list, which was produced in partnership with Corporate Knights, Domtar is rated first among U.S.-based pulp and paper producers. Our rank puts us on par with companies such as Starbucks, CVS Health Corp. and Nike. The report measures sustainability against six key principles and several key environmental performance indicators.

"Our various stakeholders believe, as do we, that caring about our environment, our communities and our people helps us better meet our business objectives and deliver returns for the long term," says John D. Williams, Domtar president and CEO. "At Domtar, everyone has a role in sustainability. We do not want sustainability to be an annex -- we want it to be integrated into our everyday management."

As a green company, our commitment to sustainability resulted in key accomplishments that were highlighted in our 2017 Sustainability Report, including:

A 53 percent reduction in recordable safety incidents since 2008.

A 33 percent reduction in waste to landfill at pulp and paper mills since 2013.

More than 4,000 hours contributed by employees at company-sponsored events.

A 13 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions at pulp and paper mills since 2010.

A 5 percent reduction in water use at pulp and paper mills since 2012.

The Newsweek Green Ranking is one of the most recognized environmental performance assessments of the world's largest publicly traded companies, as measured by revenue. Domtar appreciates that we're being recognized as an industry-leading green company and that we rank among the best green companies in the United States.
