Fire at Louisiana-Pacific facility in Wisconsin

HAYWARD, Wisconsin (From news reports) -- A structure fire was reported at the Louisiana-Pacific manufacturing facility south of Hayward at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 15. The cause of ignition is under investigation.

Fire departments responded to the scene with water, equipment and approximately 40 personnel from the City of Hayward, Town of Hayward, Town of Bass Lake, Town of Round Lake, Stone Lake, Cable and Spooner. The Town of Spider Lake also was contacted.
Incident commander Mike Herrmann, the City of Hayward fire chief, said the fire was above the press area. The fire got into the end walls and into insulation beneath the roof membrane.
Working from the top of the roof, firefighters tore up an area measuring about 200 by 100 feet in area to get the insulation out, Herrmann said. Also, they tore off tin from the end walls to get at the insulation.
Firefighters were on scene until after 9 a.m.

There was a "fair amount of damage, but it won't impede operation" of the production line, Herrmann said. The line above which the fire started was actually down at the time, he added.
