WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wisconsin (From news reports) -- A fire that started in the blower room at Verso Corp. on Monday didn't affect the company's operations, according to the fire chief.
Workers were starting up a machine in a building by the chip yard following a shutdown Monday when something heated up and started on fire, Wisconsin Rapids Fire Chief Scott Young said. Wood chips in the chip yard then started on fire.
The fire was small, but firefighters were on scene for several hours watching for hot spots in the chip yard, Young said.
