Graphic Packaging West Monroe, La. mill damaged in Easter tornado
WEST MONROE, Louisiana (From news reports) -- The Graphic Packaging International mill in West Monroe was damaged in one of two Easter tornadoes that ripped through Ouachita Parish.

Sue Appleyard, Senior Manager of Corporate Communications, said the damage occurred at approximately 11:20 a.m.

"The safety and security of our employees is of utmost importance, and we confirm that no GPI employees were injured as a result of the storm," Appleyard said. "We are still assessing the full extent of the damage and working to restore power to all areas of the mill."

Both the West Monroe mill and GPI facility in Monroe were near the trajectory of the storms. However, the GPI facility in Monroe was not affected.

"Our thoughts go out to the Monroe/West Monroe community and those who are working tirelessly in the aftermath of this natural disaster," Appleyard said.

Ouachita Parish sustained extensive damage on both sides of the river from southwest Ouachita to south Monroe.

A second possible tornado was also reported in the Sterlington area.

Multiple businesses throughout the area were damaged in the storm, including several surrounding Monroe Regional Airport.

In West Monroe, Truck Parts & Equipment Inc. reported on Facebook that several front line trucks were destroyed along with the shop and fences. Surrounding businesses were also damaged.
