Horse venture

As a 14-year-old boy, I took a short term romantic interest in a young lady of my class who rode the same school bus as I.

So, one Summer day as school was out of session, I & W. Rhodes rode our horses by her house on Shannon road. I was flirting with Paula as Walter was doing the same with Sandy who was visiting Paula during the summer.

We told them we were going camping at a desolate place farther Westward on the same road. That was fact with our bedrolls on the back of our saddles.

Paula replied that sounded like fun & she wanted to go. WOW! I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT!

She cautioned us that her daddy, a commercial fresh water fisherman went to bed early to awake early. Plus, he was a dude from S. Louisiana who spoke creole French I could not understand. In short, I was fearful of him.

But, my 14-year-old lust of the potential with 2 girls accompanying us overruled any fear. We waited a long long time for it to become dark. Finally, the lights went out in their small 4 room house.

We walked our horses so quietly up the dirt drive to find Paula & Sandy at the open window of her room.

I pulled ole Buster up to the open window for Paula to board my horse with me.

ALL WAS GOING WELL UNTIL...

My stupid horse let loose a VERY LOUD blubber....bla bla blah.

Frantically, Paula whispered with haste, "get outta here now ...daddy is up"! WE DID!

We camped out as original plan but I beat on my hobbled horse several times with curse words I knew well at age 14.

That was never mentioned again as I lost my girl friend soon after school restarted the 10th grade. TRUE!
