Menasha Packaging cutting 66 Madison County, Illinois jobs

EDWARDSVILLE, Illinois (From news reports) -- Menasha Packaging Company in Edwardsville has announced 66 layoffs by Oct. 31 because of an employee reorganization. These are not union positions.

Robert Buckner, the company contact listed at the Edwardsville location, did not respond to a request for information.

Edwardsville city officials deferred questions to Anthony Fuhrmann, director of employment and training for Madison County. On Friday Fuhrmann said via email that he was out of the office and had not heard about the pending closing of Menasha.

The Illinois Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) news came from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Local Workforce Innovation Areas (LWIAs) which provide services to Illinois employers planning or having gone through a layoff.

Under state law, employers must notify Illinois when they plan to lay off workers. Menasha's layoffs were listed this week.

According to its website, Menasha's North American network in the United States and Canada and provides packaging, merchandising and supply chain solutions for more than 1,500 global brands and new startups. It started in 1852 as a small wooden pail factory in Menasha, Wisconsin. The company is currently based in Neenah, Wisconsin.

Menasha plans a similar job contraction at the same time at one of the company's two Minooka, Illinois, locations affecting 26 employees. Seven other Illinois Menasha sites will remain operational.
