Metsä Board initiates change negotiations for potential layoffs in Finland

Metsä Board Corporation has initiated change negotiations regarding potential temporary layoffs at its paperboard and BCTMP mills in Finland. These talks will impact approximately 1,100 employees across seven mills: Joutseno, Kaskinen, Kemi, Kyro, Tampere, Simpele, and Äänekoski.

The company plans to implement the layoffs, if necessary, for up to 90 days, in several phases throughout 2025. The negotiations will start in week 46 and are expected to last two weeks. Metsä Board is making these preparations to adapt production to potentially lower delivery volumes if demand remains weak next year. Specific details regarding the timing, duration, and scale of the layoffs will be determined during 2025.
