Metsä Board starts pre-engineering project at Husum mill in Sweden

Metsä Board, part of Metsä Group, announced in March 2024 that it will start a development programme to produce new products on the current uncoated white kraftliner production line (BM2) at its Husum mill integrate in Sweden. The aim was to find alternatives for uncoated kraftliner production.

As a result, Metsä Tissue, also part of Metsä Group, in cooperation with Metsä Board will start a pre-engineering project to investigate potential change of product produced on Husum BM2. The planned investment would enable new capacity of approximately 80,000 tonnes of foodservice packaging papers and siliconised greaseproof papers. The pre-engineering phase is expected to take 12 months and the investment decision could be made earliest in the Q1 2026. The start-up of the rebuilt line would be earliest in Q4 2027.

The production of white kraftliner will continue at full capacity at least until the possible investment shutdown of BM2.

Metsä Board Husum mill in Sweden is an integrated board and pulp mill producing folding boxboard, uncoated white kraftliner and bleached chemical pulp.
