Metsä Board has updated its strategic sustainability targets for 2030. The update includes changes to existing and new targets focusing on areas such as logistics emissions, personnel diversity, and occupational safety. The previous update to the targets was made two years ago when measures improving the biodiversity and health of forests were included, as well as initiatives promoting fossil-free production at Metsä Board's mills. Since then, the achievement of targets has been monitored with the help of a comprehensive set of indicators. Several key successes have been achieved to date; for example, the share of certified wood fibre of all wood fibre sourced has risen to 92%. "Our updated target for certified wood fibre is 100%," says Markku Leskelä, SVP, Development at Metsä Board. "In terms of fossil-free production, our target has already been very ambitious. 89% of the energy we used in 2024 was fossil-free, and our target is to continue to reach 100% by 2030." Reporting according to the updated targets will begin in 2025. The sustainability targets align with Metsä Board's strategy and Metsä Group's sustainability targets. Updates to the sustainability targets were based on a double materiality assessment carried out in 2024. Metsä Board's new or revised 2030 sustainability targets are:
