Nippon Paper announces price hike

JAPAN (News release) -- Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (Tokyo: 3863; President: Toru Nozawa; the "Company") has announced a price increase of 300 / ream for newsprint in Japan, for deliveries from April 1, 2023.

Given declining demand for newsprint, coupled with surges in prices for raw materials and fuel that started to occur in the year before last, the Company has been striving to ensure the stable supply of newsprint while simultaneously realigning its production structure and introducing a range of cost-cutting measures. However, with current prices for raw materials and fuel making it extremely difficult for us to engage in reproduction through our independent efforts alone, we have determined that the price revision has to be implemented for the continuation of business and stable supply going forward.
