In a pilot project, Felix Schoeller's logistics partner NOSTA Group is now supplying the plant with fully electric power. The long-standing full-service logistics partner commutes between the Siebenlehn warehouse and Felix Schoeller Weißenborn, Germany, using three Volvo FH electric vehicles in a regional shuttle service. This saves the emissions of almost 3,000 journeys and thus up to 160,000 kilograms of CO2 per year. A total of three charging points are available for the e-trucks at the plant and the interim storage facility to recharge their batteries during loading. This is generated by Felix Schoeller itself.
"Every year, the trucks travel almost 140,000 kilometers between our plant in Weißenborn and the warehouse for paper products, moving around 55,000 tons of material. By electrifying the transports, we can save up to 160,000 kilograms of CO2 emissions, significantly reduce noise pollution on the routes and show that our brand promise is not just lip service," says Alexander Remy, Process Manager Supply Chain and Logistics at Felix Schoeller.
"The future belongs to electric trucks. They offer the opportunity - when using green electricity - to drive completely emission-free. That's why switching to battery-powered vehicles is the biggest lever for becoming CO2 neutral," says Jörg Prochaska, Branch Manager of the NOSTA Group in Siebenlehn. An integral part of the overall concept are the newly installed charging stations directly at the loading ramps, one at the interim storage facility and two at the plant. The stations supply the trucks with electricity parallel to the charging process. Christian Hammacher, COO Road at the NOSTA Group, sees the practical benefits of this solution: "The loading and unloading time of the vehicles is sufficient to fill the battery for the next tour, so that charging times are reduced and the operational process does not have to be adjusted." This is precisely why the transports between the plant in Weißenborn and the interim storage facility in Siebenlehn are particularly suitable for electrification, both operationally and economically. This was the result of an internal analysis carried out in advance.
