Papermaking leader Jeff Reese passes away
The Jeff Reese family: Wife Susan, son Jonathan, daughter Joanna, Jeff Reese, daughter Diana, and mother and father Diane and Dick Reese.

Longtime International Paper and Georgia-Pacific papermaker Jeff Reese passed away Wednesday, 30 Oct. 2019. He was 56.

Most recently, Reese worked for International Paper at its Cincinnati, Ohio Technology Center as manager-paper solutions. Reese had spent more than 15 years at IP, and worked at Georgia-Pacific as a Senior Papermaking Engineer from 1995-2004. Prior to that, he worked at International Paper from 1992-1995, and Valmet Enerdry from 1987-92.

Reese was a 1985 North Carolina State Paper Science and Engineering alumnus. The NC State Foundation announced, "Dear NC State Paper Science Community - It is with a very heavy heart that we bring you the news of Jeff Reese's passing. The family's wishes are for honorariums to be made to the Jeff Reese IMPACT Scholarship, that has been endowed in his honor by the many who knew him!"

"Jeff is the epitome of a dedicated volunteer to our industry and NC State. He constantly challenges the status quo to keep our program and students at a world class level," Jennifer Piercy, director of student recruiting for paper science and engineering, and executive director of the Pulp and Paper Foundation, said in 2018.

That 2018 article said that each year, Reese spends a week on the NC State campus conducting mock interviews with students in the paper science and engineering program to help them prepare to get internships and jobs. He meets with each of them, helping them improve their resume and tailor their stories to secure jobs.

"I've been leading recruiting at NC State and helping with training engineers for 22 years now, starting before the current students were born. I've had the chance to help train and develop over 900 engineers in this time. Some of the early classes were about 20 engineers per year. Our most recent class has over 150 new paper, chemical, mechanical, electrical, environmental, and safety engineers," Reese said in 2018.

Reese's daughter, Diana, graduated from NC State in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in paper science and engineering. His son, Jonathan is currently double majoring in electrical engineering and computer engineering at NC State, and his youngest, Joanna, still in high school, hopes to study engineering in college as well.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 21, 2019 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, Ohio, 45040. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, November 22, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Mueller Funeral Home with Pastor Shane Walters officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
