WEED, Calif. (News release) -- Roseburg Forest Products provides the following statement regarding Cal Fire's announcement Friday, June 16, 2023 about its investigation of the Mill Fire that began on the Weed Veneer Plant on Sept. 2, 2022:

"Roseburg's priority is to support our neighbors as they rebuild their homes and the Weed and Lake Shastina communities. Today's CalFire report does not change that. We cooperated fully with the investigation and will thoroughly review the report once we have received it."

Cal Fire fire investigators have determined that the devastating Mill Fire that occurred in Weed last year was caused by mill operations at Roseburg Forest Products.

On Friday, Cal Fire announced their Fire Marshal fire investigators were dispatched to the fire and began working to determine the origin and cause. Following their investigation, they concluded it was caused by the milling operations.

Cal Fire says the investigative report has been sent to the Siskiyou County District Attorney's Office.

The Mill Fire began on September 2, 2022, and burned 3.935 acres. It also damaged or destroyed 144 structures, injured three people and killed two others.
