Packaging Corporation of America (PCA), headquartered in Illinois, has agreed to pay $2.5 million in civil penalties to resolve allegations that it violated the Clean Air Act's General Duty Clause and Risk Management Program Regulations at its containerboard production mill in DeRidder, Louisiana.

Cascades announces the temporary shutdown of one of its two tissue paper machines at its St. Helens, Oregon facility. The machine has an annual production capacity of 50,000 tons of tissue made from virgin fibre, and supplies the Company's converting plants, primarily the Scappoose, Oregon facility. Production of the second machine, located in a separate building, is not impacted.

This is expected to result in a reduction of approximately 200 million board feet of production capacity.

As of the end of 2023, production capacities for label papers will be extended at the Gratkorn mill in Austria. The double-digit million-euro investment in technological innovations, such as a new embossing calendar, will enable the modern paper mill to produce high quality wet-strength wet-glue label paper.

State of Michigan environmental investigators have issued Graphic Packaging International multiple violations after an unannounced inspection in July, including one violation for releasing a chemical at a rate that exceeds the permitted emission limit.

Sylvamo, the world's paper company, is announcing it agreed to acquire Stora Enso's uncoated freesheet paper mill in Nymolla, Sweden, for 150 million euros (approximately $150 million) expected to be funded in cash, subject to customary purchase price adjustments. The agreement includes the mill, the strong brands it produces and the people who make it happen.

The combination brings together two high quality timberland REITs resulting in PotlatchDeltic owning nearly 2.2 million acres of diversified timberlands, including 626,000 acres in Idaho and over 1.5 million acres in strengthening markets in the U.S. South.

More than 100 people are suing the Roseburg Forest Products Co. in Oregon for losses caused by the Mill Fire in Siskiyou County. Among them is a man whose mother died in the blaze.
