Union members at Sappi Skowhegan, Maine mill come to contract agreement

SKOWHEGAN, Maine (From news reports) - Union members at the Sappi Somerset mill in Skowhegan have come to a contract agreement after authorizing a strike earlier this month.

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 2740 announced the agreement with the mill on Friday.

They say workers were demanding more competitive wages and a better work-life balance.

The IAM Local 2740 says the new contract will include industry leading wage standards, improvements to mandatory overtime policy, and an increase in vacation time.

In the announcement, the union thanked the bargaining committee and union members for working together during the negotiations.
